Indonesia's Consumer Spending Recovers to Pre-Pandemic Levels

Consumer spending in Indonesia has receovered to pre-pandemic levels according to data from the Mandiri institute.

According to the Mandiri inistitute's "Brief on latest consumer spending" consumer spending in January this year, has returned to the normal pattern of spending in the pre-pandemic period.

The Mandiri spending index showed that that the frequency of consumer spending index reached 157,9 in January, while the value of consumer spending index reached 131,7. Frequency of consumer spending index even reached a high of 171,5 in December much higher than the 155,7 it recahed the previous year. 

The steady increase in consumer spending in 2022 comes even as subsidized fuel prices were hiked by 30% , while food prices also continued to surge.
